What is in your food?

Look closely. In each of these photos, something does not belong. Once you see the first one, you'll know what to look for in the rest. Have fun!

Some interesting mice

You probably take your mouse for granted, but they've come a long way.

Here are a few notable mice through history:

First up, the first mouse ever:

Invented by Douglas Engelbart and demonstrated at the Fall Joint Computer Expo in San Francisco on December 9, 1968. Here is the patent design (click to enlarge):

Next, a Soviet design -- yeah, they had their own little computer industry going for a while too:

Not bad considering we're talking about the Soviet Union -- in the 80s -- here. Notice the construction. If these mice were anything like some other Soviet products, they were probably designed to survive a hell of a beating.

And finally, the first Microsoft mouse:

I thought it was pretty interesting how similar it is to the Soviet mouse. Insert your own joke here.

You can read the full story here but I have enlarged and rehosted the most significant photo here, because the original is quite small.

Anyone have a guess as to what this is?

The extreme end of stubbornness

Developers came and bought up all the houses around these guys. They refused. The bulldozers came anyways.

Apparently the family has government connections, and is not expected to be forced out.

Strange, futuristic LA gas station

This popped up a month or so ago on the corner of Olympic and Robertson. Nice that they can come up with a futuristic design for a gas station, but they can't come up with a less primitive means of powering cars than oil.
